Being dull is the new ‘sexy’ says Redditch photographer who snaps car parks

A PHOTOGRAPHER who describes himself as the ‘most boring man in Britain’ is selling 2021 calendars filled with his own car park pictures.

But Kevin Beresford, from Redditch, says he does not consider being called ‘dull’ a derogatory term, but believes it to be ‘sexy’.

“I love taking pictures of car parks, multi-storeys and roundabouts because of their architecture – many of them date back to the 60s,” he said.

Kevin’s unusual hobby has taken him all over the world, costing him thousands of pounds in petrol in the process.

The 68-year-old described Car Park 7 at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre as one of the most depressing he has ever seen.

But he has fallen in love with several car parks in the Malvern because of their fantastic views.

“My calendar is the perfect gift to give to your least favourite aunty at Christmas because, let’s be honest, we’re all fed up of seeing naked firemen.”

It all began in 2003 when Kevin was asked by a motor insurance company to take pictures of car parks to highlight how badly lit they were.

From there his work turned into a personal interest, and while people may see it as mundane, he believes ‘most good artists are’.

“Andy Warhol drew soup cans at the end of the day,” he added.

After recently appearing in the national press, Kevin has been inundated with offers to go on TV to speak on his passion.

He is set to appear on ITV’s Martin and Roman’s Sunday Best! and last week he turned down on offer to be on First Dates.

“They wanted me to go up to Manchester last weekend and go out with an old dear in her 70s,” he said.

“I’ve also been on Jeremy Vine. He asked me how many pictures are in my calendars – I couldn’t believe it. I told him 12. Twelve for 12 months.”

Kevin is offering locals the chance to send in their own car park pictures, which he promises to put in his next calendar if they’re good enough.
