Batchley First School and Nursery are wrapping their tree for the Jubilee

BATCHLEY First School and Nursery are already putting plans in place to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a very colourful way.

The school’s logo contains an image of the large oak tree that is situated on the school field, which they have taken inspiration from.

Aware that trees are the Queen’s focus for the Jubilee, the Head teacher, Sarah Downes and the Chair of the Governing Board, Mercia Lee, have come up with a plan to ‘wrap’ the trunk and some of the branches of the oak in colourful knitted and crochet squares.

Between now, the anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne and the end of May, the school community will crochet and knit squares to wrap around the tree.

There will be hundreds of five inch squares knitted in time to celebrate a colourful school party by the tree for the Jubilee weekend.
