Baby Ella's early arrival launches mum Rachel on a brand new career path

A TOUCH and go birth that led to her baby daughter being born eight weeks early persuaded a Redditch mum to give up the corporate world and launch her own business instead.

Fifteen months ago and heavily pregnant, Rachel Green noticed that the baby she was carrying had stopped moving around so much.

Concerned, she and her husband Matthew, who also have a son, Harvey, visited the Alexandra Hospital to get both mum-to-be and baby examined.

“Had I not gone to the Alex to get checked for reduced movement, Ella-Rose would not be here today,” said Rachel.

“The staff put me on a monitor and were not happy at all – they did a scan and noticed she had had hardly any fluid or oxygen so they did an emergency Cesarian.

“She only weighed 1Ib 10oz and stayed seven weeks in hospital. She is doing really well now thanks to all the staff at the hospital.”

That emotional journey persuaded Rachel to start her own virtual assistant business – Vellastar Business Support.

“After going through a rollercoaster ride and never really knowing whether my little girl would make it, I soon realised that life was for living and I should make each day count,” she said.

“I just thank God we went in to hospital – if we had not she would not be here today – she was actually the size of a 26 week old baby when she was born.”

Today Rachel supports other small businesses by providing social media management, virtual PA and event and lifestyle management.

She also launched a Facebook group offering advice specifically for other mums in business called Business Mums Network and is a keen supports of www.bliss.org.uk the charity for premature babies and www.kickscount.org.uk a charity which urges expectant mums to get to know the kicks of their baby.
