Award-winning chef holds fun day in aid of toddler battling cancer

AN award-winning chef is holding a fun day at his Alcester restaurant in aid of a toddler battling cancer.

Three year-old Meadow White is currently in remission following treatment for a rare form of malignant germ cell cancer.

The youngster was diagnosed with the condition last September after mum Samantha noticed a lump on her back.

Meadow was immediately referred to a specialist in Birmingham where the family’s worst fears were confirmed.

“I cannot put into words the shocking heartbreak of hearing that your daughter has cancer,” said Samantha, from Bidford.

“You go through all the emotions, the tears and upset, and then you realise you have to pull yourself together.

“Up until March this year she was having chemotherapy – she’s only three but she’s been so brave – she is amazing.”

Now in an effort to raise money to send Meadow and her family on a desperately needed break to Disney World, Chino Miah of Cardamom Restaurant in Swan Street, Alcester, is holding a fun day for Meadow on Sunday, September 9 from 12noon to 4pm in the car park behind the premises.

“Chino had heard of Meadow’s struggle and kindly contacted us with the aim of sending us to Disney World for a much-needed break,” said Samantha, who together with her partner Cory also has twin girls aged 19 months.

“Meadow’s immune system has completely gone, she picks up the slightest infection.

“She coped really well with the chemotherapy but there’s now a risk of infertility and it may have damaged her heart and lungs – we’ll have to wait and see.”

Chino, winner of the Best Take Away Food of Great Britain award 2017, said: “Meadow has been through so much and has been given treatment to target the cancer that is designed for adults.

“We would like to raise money to send Meadow to Disney World for a much deserved holiday after such a difficult journey.”

The Cardamom event is free, although donations would be welcome, and Alcester Mayor Councillor Andrew Foster will also be going along to encourage support.
