AS part of their celebrations at the opening of their new school library, the children at St Luke’s C of E First School in Redditch recently enjoyed a special visit from children’s author and illustrator Steve Smallman.
Steve, who has written stories such as Batmouse, The Greedy Bee and Dragon Stew as well the popular Santa is Coming to … Collection, spent the day at the school working with the children from Reception up to Year 4.
The children had the opportunity to listen to Steve read a selection of his famous titles and complete class workshops where they created a story scene with characters that Steve went on to illustrate.
Their day ended with Steve judging and announcing the winners of a school writing competition during a whole school assembly.
Headteacher, Elaine Pemberton, said: “the children had a wonderful day and were inspired to write stories as a result. We hope this special event encourages our children to continue to love reading.”
