Aunty Jen productions return with Robin Hood panto

Redditch Editorial 14th Dec, 2021   0

THEY sold out their last show and now the fabulous Aunty Jen Productions are returning to the stage with their festive panto ‘Robin Hood and his Band of Merrie Men’.

Featuring songs, dances and plenty of fun, it promises to be a fantastic run of performances and perfect for Christmas entertainment.

“It’s very much in our style,” said director Jen Stone.

“We’ve had such a ridiculous time rehearsing it and it’s going to be absolutely classic family fun where people can walk through the door and just have a lovely festive time.”

Aunty Jen Productions grew out of the Studley community during lockdown last year and now, thanks to overwhelming support from both near and far, as well as backing from the Arts Council and now the National Lottery, has gone from strength to strength.

“We applied to the National Lottery for some funding so we could buy fabric which would enable our lovely volunteer ladies who make our costumes could make something that they wanted to make rather than alter what we’d been given,” said Jen.

“So I wrote to the National Lottery, told them where we’d come from, what we were about and what we were doing, and they very kindly gave us a grant which has enabled us to buy patterns, fabrics and an overlocker sewing machine.”

As a result their panto dame will be resplendent in stunning frocks while their venue, Studley Sports and Social Club, will be transformed into the wilds of Sherwood Forest.

“We’re also trying to raise funds for a BSL Interpreted performance,” said Jen.

“We just need £300, so if anyone wishes to make a donation, they should email us as soon as possible!”

The company also has two new members, including Mark Jefferies who has come out of retirement to play Nurse Lucy Lastic, alongside AJP regulars.

The cast have been putting on performances for local schools, including St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Year 7s at Studley High before taking the show on the road to Great Alne Primary School then squeezing in a special performance at Waterloo Care Home in Bidford.

It then opens fully to the public on December 18 and will run through to January 3 with a live streamed broadcast on January 2.

Once again, the company are determined to keep everyone safe so numbers will be restricted, seating will be in groups in bubbles at tables and using bells and rattles to replace traditional interaction.

Plus they will be repeating their new panto tradition of the interactive TikTok.

Tickets are £6 but you can upgrade to a VIP seat with drink or even a VIP seat with a pizza.
