THE Astwood Bank Carnival Royalty for 2019 have been crowned for the coming year.
Poppy Marshall is the new Carnival Queen. The 16-year-old, who enjoys singing, is a student at Bournville College, a leader at Astwood Bank Brownies, and also a member of the Young Firefighters Association.
She’ll be supported by Carnival Princesses Orla Harrington, 11, Orla a pupil at Astwood Bank Primary School who plays football for Inkberrow Girls and is a member of Redditch Road and Path cycle club and Astwood Bank Guides.
For her audition she gave a demonstration of Irish dancing.
Joining her is fellow Astwood Bank Primary School student Rebecca Davis, also 11, who as well as being a member of Astwood Bank Guides and of Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletics Club, is a young leader at Rainbow and Brownies in Astwood Bank.
For her audition she sang to the judges.
Completing the trio of princesses is keen swimmer Daisy Stewart-Clarke, also 11, who attends Ridgeway Academy.
She is a member of Astwood Bank Scout Group and played guitar for her audition.
Vicky Johnson, who led the judging panel, said: “As ever we were delighted with the number of applications by young people wanting to play a key role in our local community.
“The standard of applications was as high as ever and we were entertained royally by all of our applicants’ auditions.
“Now we look forward to working with this year’s Royalty and getting them involved with all of the community activities we have planned for 2019.”
Astwood Bank Carnival weekend starts on Friday, July 12 with a Barn Dance followed by the main canrival procession on Saturday, July 13 with a host of activities planned for the carnival field.
