A STUNNING piece of artwork has been donated to the nurses at the Alexandra Hospital by Redditch author and sports nutrition and fitness business owner Gavin Townsend.

Commissioned by Gavin of Windsor Road-based GymBeing and painted by talented artist Viktoria Nazaeovaite, it was shown first to local MP Rachel Maclean whose offices are located close to GymBeing.

Mrs Maclean, who is known to appreciate art after commissioning one of local artist Steve Pound’s famous water tower paintings, spoke of her excitement at seeing the work, describing it as a ‘fantastic picture’.

Gavin said he had been inspired to commission and donate the piece, showing nurses front and centre in a line-up superheroes, because of all the hard work staff are doing.

He said: “I have got a lot of friends who work there, all grafting to keep us all healthy and safe.

“I also have a friend who is an artist and I asked her to do something just for the Alex.”

Deputy Chief Nurse at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Jackie Edwards, added: “It’s a real privilege and a pleasure to accept this beautiful painting.

“Your support for our nursing work has meant so much and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
