Arrow Valley Health Walkers group on the lookout for new recruits

Redditch Editorial 9th Dec, 2018   0

THE Arrow Valley Health Walkers group has become so successful they’re looking for a new recruit on Mondays to join them as a walk leader.

More than 50 members of the group braved chilly weather to celebrate Christmas with a walk to the Golden Goose for a festive meal.

The free walks, which leave from the Visitors Centre at Arrow Valley Country Park, are run by volunteers with support from Redditch Borough Council.

They’re held on Monday mornings at 11am and return just before midday, usually covering one-and-a-half to three miles.

There is also a Thursday morning walk at 11am of up to five miles for more confident walkers.

The walks not only keep participants fit and active but also provide an opportunity for socialising as well as giving people the confidence to take up other walking opportunities.

Councillor Mike Rouse, whose portfolio covers Leisure and Cultural services, said: “For older people and those at home during the day these walks are a great way to combat loneliness, keep fit, and make new friends.”

To join the group, simply turn up at 11am on a Monday morning at the visitor centre.

Anyone interested in becoming a walk leader – free training will be given – contact the council’s Events Team on 01527 534030.
