Alien craft’ set to land in Redditch MP’s office

AN alien spaceship shaped like Redditch’s landmark water tower could be getting ready to touchdown at the Houses of Parliament.

It is the concept of local artist Steve Pound who has been commissioned by Redditch’s Conservative MP Rachel Maclean to create one of his iconic water tower paintings for her office in London.

And although Steve’s keeping tight-lipped of what the work will look like when he’s finished it, he’s happy to drop enough hints.

“The idea was to have something to remind her of Redditch while she was in Parliament,” said Steve, a member of the Green Party.

“I’m thinking of the water tower with the Houses of Parliament reflected in the Thames. I did ask if I could have a few missiles blowing it up as well but I think I’ll have to settle for a tractor beam or two instead,” he joked.

Mrs Maclean came across Steve’s work after Googling ‘artists in Redditch’, liked what she saw of his work and got in touch.

“I was quite surprised when I got her email and I must admit she seems a million miles away from our last MP.”

Mrs Maclean said: “It’s such a clever idea to use the water tower as Steve does, and it’s an iconic image of Redditch.

“I wanted something to hang in my office in Westminster to remind of why I am there, and as soon as I saw Steve’s work he was the obvious choice – and no one else in Parliament will have anything like it.”

In the meantime, the two have put any political differences to one side in the interest in art, although Steve admits he ‘will have to speak to her about the Alexandra Hospital’.

Steve’s work can be found online at Colour Drunk.
