Alert for drivers using the M6 as roadworks start at junction 7

Redditch Editorial 21st Feb, 2018   0

DRIVERS from Redditch heading north on the M6 from Birmingham city centre should be aware that road works are starting this week on the northbound carriageway near junction 7.

The road, which is used by tens of thousands of vehicles every day, will see the essential work taking place overnight while the road is at its quietest.

The condition of the carriageway surface has deteriorated as a result of one of the wettest years on record followed by a winter spell of falling temperatures.

This has resulted in water finding its way into the carriageway, freezing and then lifting and breaking up the road surface above it as it thaws.

As part of the work replacement expansion joints will also be installed in the carriageway. These are designed to allow movement within the structure and also add further water protection.

As part of the work, there will be some lane closures and a speed restriction of 40mph and signed diversions will be in place.
