Alcester Repair Cafe is up and running once again

Redditch Editorial 5th Oct, 2020   0

ALCESTER Repair Cafe is up and running once again and breathing new life into all manner of things.

Based as usual at the Eric Payne Community Centre in St Faith’s Road, a strict Covid-19 hygiene regime means the popular event is back in action.

“People need to ring me or email and I give them a time slot which gives me time to sanitise their items ready for repair,” said project co-ordinator Wendy Sherwood.

“Once fixed it’s sanitised once again and I call the owner and they come and pick it up.”

The beauty of the Repair Cafe is that, in a throw away culture, it’s an opportunity to get something working again rather than throwing it away to be dumped in a landfill site.

Not only that but it allows the volunteer repairers and experts to exercise the skills and talents they’ve built up over the years that might otherwise have gone to waste.

Alcester Repair Cafe was launched earlier this year only to be forced into hibernation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It meets monthy on Thursdays from 2pm to 6pm and the next one is on October 22 and then November 26.

To get in touch, email [email protected] or by telephone 01789 766084.

Also in the works at the Eric Payne Community Centre is a Cook and Eat Your Tea initiative, which aims to pass on culinary skills to a range of different groups.

Held on Wednesday, to take part use the contact details above.
