Alcester Academy designs perspex poppies for its new Remembrance Garden

ALCESTER Academy has been busy making perspex poppies for its new Remembrance Garden.

Parents or carers of children at the school have been sponsoring the poppies for £5 each – raising more than £300 for Alcester Poppy Appeal.

Headteacher Sarah Mellors said: “With everything that’s gone on this year, we were concerned that we wouldn’t be able to attend the annual parade.

“So we decided to do something different instead.

“Using resources in our DT department, we were able to put together the garden for the Royal British Legion.”

The garden is at the front of the school and includes the names of those who have sponsored.

The secretary of Alcester British Legion, Dave Malin, added his thanks to the pupils who helped put together the fantastic display.

“The amount we will raise this year for the Poppy Appeal will be much lower than normal, given the circumstances.

“Most of our volunteers have been classed as ‘vulnerable’, meaning we haven’t been able to get out as much to sell the poppies.

“Alcester Academy’s will probably be our biggest contribution this year and we can’t thank them enough.”
