Alarm at plans to build gas generating facility in the local countryside

Redditch Editorial 8th Jun, 2018   0

PLANS to build a ‘standby gas powered generation facility’ next to Withycombe Woods and Aston Grove near Haselor have raised alarm.

The plan, put forward by Enso Energy is to build the emergency power-station off Croft Lane on the Temple Grafton side of the Stratford Road.

The development would see 22 gas generator engines, 11 transformers surrounded by a four metre high acoustic barrier and security fencing.

Mr and Mrs Pountley, who live at Haselor Hill, notified Stratford-On-Avon District Council about their concerns.

Mrs Pountley said: “We have major worries regarding the noise and air pollution so close to our property.

“Not only that, we also run a cattery business which has been in existence for 50 years.

“When cats becomes stressed, they refuse to do basic things such as eating and drinking.

“With their enhanced hearing, I can’t imagine they will enjoy listening to the sound of a power-station nearby.

“This could be possibly detrimental to the future of our business.”

Local District Councillor Mike Gittus (Con, Kinwarton) said he planned to object to the application.

“I will be consulting with Haselor Parish Council and Stratford District Council and we will be asking Alcester Town Council to reflect our views.

“It is a large industrial development in the heart of rural Warwickshire in an area close to a site of special scientific interest and ancient forest land.

“The overall feeling at the moment is that the detrimental affect outweighs the national need for a power station at that location.

“Together with my neighbour on the district, Coun Sue Adams, I will visit the site and we will discuss it further.”

The plan us due to be considered on July 22.
