THE Aladdin’s Cave of Studley – Davis’ on Alcester Road – is to close down.

The village institution, which sells everything from tap washers to jigsaw puzzles, brooms and sledges to light bulbs and sticky tape, is shutting up shop after 55 years in business.

Manager Yvonne Roberts said the decision had been made by the shop’s owner who is retiring.

“It’s very sad,” she said.

“The shop has been here for 55 years and we have been part of it for 25 of those years so it’s been very emotional.

“But it’s been a pleasure to be here and to meet so many lovely people.

“It’s the end of a very big era.”

It is expected the shop will close by the end of May, meanwhile the staff will be looking for a new jobs.
