AGE UK Redditch is appealing for local volunteers to grow and develop its ‘Community Foot Care’ service to help maintain healthier and ‘happier’ feet.
The charity believes we often take our feet for granted and don’t appreciate how important they are for our mobility and general well-being.
Serious problems can usually be avoided by taking care of our feet.
Helen, a Foot Care Volunteer for Age UK, said: “It is hard to imagine the discomfort and pain caused by long, thickened toenails and hard skin but it does happen.
“For example – people with inflexibility, poor eyesight and dementia may not be able to cut their own toenails and that is where we come in.
“Clients are so happy when they walk out of a foot care appointment with their toe nails no longer pressing agonisingly into the ends of their shoes.
“People leave saying that they feel as if they could go dancing.
“Lives can actually be transformed by having comfortable feet.
“This is what makes volunteering so rewarding, as well as the opportunity to meet so many lovely and interesting people.
Foot Care Volunteer, Alison, added: “If you are looking for glamour, kudos or street cred then perhaps this is not for you!
“However if you are interested in making a real difference to people’s lives and comfort, aren’t squeamish about feet and have a few hours a month to spare then please get in touch.”
