A FIVE minute downpour failed to dampen the spirits as the first bandstand event of the season attracted hundreds of people to Church Green.

Set on a vintage theme there was music from Indigo Arts’s vocal group The Violettes and Jazz Alchemy and a host of things to see and do.

These included a display of vintage Royal Enfield motorcycles, vintage cars to admire, a look back in time with Redditch Local History Society and plenty of stalls and things to eat and drink.

“I think a little bit of magic happened – we have a few minutes of rain but that didn’t stop people from coming along,”” said organiser Sue Yeng.

It’s estimated that up to 500 people attended the event over the afternoon, including deputy mayor Councillor Gareth Prosser and Council Leader Coun Matt Dormer.

All eyes now turn to the next bandstand event on July 13 which will be on an end of school year party theme with loads of things to see and do.
