A new school is brought into the fold as Shires MAT expands

THE Shires Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), which centres on Studley High School, has been joined by North Bromsgrove High School (NBHS).

An Academy Order was issued for North in the 2019 summer term and since then the Department for Education has been working with other trusts to find one which would be a ‘perfect fit’.

Studley High School, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, has been supporting North following its 2018 negative Ofsted report in 2018.

Lee Gray, the Studley head, and Nick Gibson were appointed joint interim headteachers at North to transform the school before Mr Gibson was handed the role full-time.

The new partnership opened a dialogue with the Regional Schools Commissioner, enabling the positive relationship between the two schools to be cemented into a formal partnership.

At this month’s West Midlands Advisory Board meeting, the Shires Multi Academy Trust was named as preferred sponsor for NBHS as it would formalise an already successful relationship.

“The school has achieved many successes over the past three years and the potential collaboration serves to further strengthen and enhance the future education North Bromsgrove has to offer,” said Mr Gibson.

Mr Gray added: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with NBHS as the school builds on the excellent progress made in recent years.

“There is a great deal of exciting work ahead and a bright future for both NBHS and the Shires MAT as we look to formalise our partnership.”

The Shires MAT consists on Studley High School, Feckenham CE Primary School and Webheath Primary School.
