REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has been sanctioned by the Russian government.
It comes as Western sanctions continue to take their toll on the Russian economy, with businesses, oligarchs, sports stars and exports all targeted.
On hearing the news she said: “I’ve today been placed on a list of MPs sanctioned by the Putin regime.
“Why? Because Russia’s Foreign Ministry says those sanctioned “took the most active part in the establishment of anti-Russian sanctions instruments.”
“I’ll wear it as a badge of honour.
“Slava Ukraini.”
Mrs Maclean is a minister in the Home Office.
Meanwhile the war in the Ukraine continues with Russian forces continuing their assault in the south eastern Donbas region of the country.
Mrs Maclean is not alone in being sanctioned.
In fact she’s among 287 MPs sanctioned by Vladmir Putin in a tit-for-tat punishment over the UK’s decision to take action against hundreds of Russian politicians last month.
Worcestershire colleagues Robin Walker (Worcester), Harriett Baldwin (West Worcestershire), and Nigel Huddleston (Mid Worcestershire) are also among the Members of Parliament accused by Russia’s Foreign Ministry of being the ‘most active’ in supporting sanctions against the Kremlin.
It accused them of whipping up ‘Russophobic hysteria’ with ‘hostile rhetoric and ‘far-fetched accusations’.
And while there was no place for Bromsgrove MP and Health Secretary Sajid Javid, it’s unlikely any of our elected representatives will lose any sleep as the list includes 18 politicians who are no longer MPs and former Attorney General Dominic Grieve who appeared on the list twice.
