Redditch Choral Society raise the roof at Trinity with Rossini performance

ROSSINI’S Petite Messe Solonmelle proved a huge success for Redditch Choral Society last Saturday, December 8.

The audience found the piece both unusual and thrilling – a mixture of solemn and delicate church music and operatic extravaganza!

Music director Emily Tyrrell, chose, directed and conducted this piece with infectious confidence and enjoyment which was reflected in the performance.

Backed by two pianists and one harmonium the four professional soloist singers were sublime.

And all the hard work in rehearsals by the choir paid off as they truly did justice to this quirky and exciting piece.

The change of venue from St Stephen’s Church to Trinity High School was made to accommodate the need for two pianos but it also provided a warm and comfortable place to enjoy the music.

Audience numbers were up too on recent concerts and it is to be hoped that this will continue.

The next RCS concert will be in early June 2019 with a performance pf Mozart’s Requiem – something a little more conventional.

Rehearsals start on Wednesday, January 9 at Crabbs Cross Methodist Church from 7.45pm to 9.30pm.

New members are very welcome and there is no audition.
