TOP folk duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman play The Bridge Church (St Luke’s) in Redditch on Saturday, February 3.
The partnership have been recognised nationally for their talents, being nominated for ‘Best Duo’ at the 2013 BBC Folk Awards before winning the prestigious prize in 2016.
And the couple promise an enjoyable evening’s entertainment for all ages.
Kathryn is regarded as one of the finest singers of her generation. Born and raised in the south Yorkshire mining town of Barnsley, she’s been singing since she could speak.
An early duo career with fellow Barnsley-ite Kate Rusby led to much critical acclaim and an award winning album.
From there the duo joined the three Lakeman brothers to form the folk supergroup Equation and as her relationship with Sean Lakeman blossomed, the couple are now married, this new folk duo decided to return to their English folk roots.
Sean has been playing guitar since he was six and after Equation broke up he went on to orchestrate the sound of his brother Seth’s albums, which have won a hatful of awards.
His production credits also include working with Imelda May, Bellowhead and Billy Bragg.
They play The Bridge Church on Evesham Road, Headless Cross, B97 4JX at 7.30pm on February 3 and tickets are £11/£10 concessions, to include a glass of wine or juice, from Maureen Brown on 01527 542281.
