Beat this: Drum guru Gary set to lift the lid on Ringo Starr at the Palace

GARY Astridge, Ringo Starr’s official drum historian and curator, will be giving insightful and entertaining multimedia presentations on Ringo’s Beatles career at Redditch Town Hall next Thursday, August 30.

The two-hour show, which starts at 7.30pm focuses on Ringo’s Beatles-era drum kits, his drumming style and technique. There will be rare photos, exclusive merchandise, numerous stories plus a question and answer session too.

The Beatles will also figure big in all of this as the focus will be on Ringo during his time with the band.

Astridge’s Ringo-related highlights include installing and curating two of Ringo’s Beatles-era kits for the Grammy Museum’s Ringo, and researching and documenting drums including Ringo’s first Ludwig Beatles kit, which sold for a staggering $2.1 million.

The event is in association with Vintage Drums Legendary Sounds (VDLS), the world’s only vintage drum magazine, run by Nick Hopkin Drums.

“This is an opportunity to hear about Ringo Starr’s drums and the stories behind them from Gary, a member of Ringo’s inner circle,” said Nick.

“He has documented every aspect of these iconic kits and even Ringo admits that Gary’s knowledge exceeds his own, with the former Beatle noting, ‘Gary, because of your research, I’ve learned things that I didn’t know, and you brought back fond memories of things I had forgotten’.”
