  • Errors prove costly

    Will Wood

    09 May 2008

INDIVIDUAL errors cost Redditch Arrows a win in their season opener as they lost 13-7 at the Yorkshire Rams on Sunday.
The Arrows committed a total of six turnovers in their 2008 British American Football League Division One Northern Conference curtain raiser.
Redditch’s first possession ended in a short punt and the Rams countered with a 38-yard pass down the left sideline to score before adding the extra point.
Before Redditch could settle, running back Dave Mills spilt the ball but the Arrows defence kept their opponents out.
As the rain got heavier both teams racked up the turnovers as the ball became increasingly difficult to hold onto
In the second half another fumble recover by James Chattoe resulted in Mills ripping through the Rams defence for a 24-yard touchdown before John Riddell added the extras.
But Yorkshire then put together a good drive of their own and after a 29-yard scramble by the Rams quarterback, a 7-yard run off right tackle restored the lead.
Defensive end Ian Looms got through to block the extra point and Redditch return to Yorkshire on Sunday as they face the South Yorkshire Mustangs.
