REDDITCH county councillor Joe Baker has demanded that Diamond Buses bosses be hauled to County Hall to explain the dire service they are currently providing in the town.
Coun Baker (Lab, Arrow Valley East) said: “I challenged Coun John Smith (Con, Evesham NW, cabinet member for Highways) to bring them.
“Diamond Buses have a contract with the county to run services and they currently receive a subsidy for a lot of routes yet they have received so much negative press because of their level of service.”
Speaking at full council at Worcester last Thursday (November 12) Coun Baker said: “We’re supposed to be ‘world class Worcestershire’ but we don’t have a world class bus service. Redditch must be in steerage! So I would like the council to invite Diamond in for a chat with a view to us moving up a few classes – even third class would be better.”
However Coun Smith said Diamond were the only company prepared to operate the service after the previous contract holders, Whittle, had gone bust.
“What the alternative is I do not know,” he said.
