TOP tips from some of the country’s leading anglers were among the attractions at an open day at Alvechurch Fisheries.

Children as young as five-years-old enjoyed learning about the sport at the Bittell Road venue where experts were also on hand to offer advice and show how to make various fishing flies.

“It went really well,” said spokesman John Hunt. “There were about 20 children up to the age of 13 along with their mums and dads.

“We had a kids zone in association with Angling Unlimited where they could have a taster session.

“They could then move on to the free zone and the other pools. One of the children had some individual coaching and caught a carp of almost 6lbs.

“It was the first time we have done something like this but it was really good.”

All the children who attended the open day were given goodie bags and rods and reels were presented to the top young anglers in a 60-minute fishing contest.
