A FUND-RAISING campaign for the Primrose Hospice, launched through the Standard just four weeks ago, is already a third of the way to reaching its target.
A total of £32,921 has been donated to the charity’s BIG Appeal to raise £100,000 in 80 days.
The drive is being driven by rising demand for the Bromsgrove based hospice’s services. Last year the hospice supported almost 900 local people at a cost of £1.6million. A fifth of that comes from the health service with public donations totalling £1.2million, leaving a shortfall.
Chief executive officer Helen Garfield said she was absolutely delighted local people and businesses had got behind the BIG Appeal.
“I would personally like to thank everyone who has donated - no matter how much - to the amount. Even in today’s challenging financial climate, people are putting their hand in their pocket or putting on events to support our charity.”
She added a lot of events had already been organised for the BIG Appeal - one school made and sold friendship bracelets, the Kingfisher Shopping Centre organised a cake sale and a volunteer is planning a barn dance.
“We don’t charge for any of our services and we offer help to anyone within the North Worcestershire area so money raised locally stays local,” Mrs Garfield added.
“Most people know someone who has been affected by cancer or another life limiting illness and we all like to think that services would be available for us should we need them.
“By supporting our BIG Appeal you can help to ensure we are here for everyone who needs our support.”
