Borough talent to take to Morton Stanley Festival stage

THE BIGGEST event in Redditch's social calendar is set to be bigger and better than ever before.

Morton Stanley Festival returns on Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17, showcasing 16 hours of local talent and a wide array of entertainment.

The free family-friendly festival attracts thousands of people every year and has proved so popular there is already a waiting list for bands to perform on the main stage.

As in previous years the Saturday night will be dedicated to local bands with alternative rock group Layers headlining the day. The four piece band, which hail from Oakenshaw, Smallwood and Wirehill, include Lance Joseph on vocals, Nick Ebanks on bass, Elliot Vaughan on drums and guitarist James Thompson.

They released their debut EP in September last year and have already been featured on Kerrang radio’s Artist of The Week as well as being handpicked by singer Colin Doran from Hundred Reasons to support them at a sold out show. The group has also performed at the Alternative Great Escape in Brighton and supported US pop punk group Everclear.

On the Sunday The Destroyers will take centre stage, describing themselves as an anarchic orchestra of blazing passion and breathtaking originality.

There will also be a wide range of stalls and activities across the whole weekend including an array of craft stalls.

Jonathan Cochrane, theatre and arts development manager for Redditch Borough Council, said: "The popularity of Morton Stanley grows year on year with more and more people attending and getting involved. There is a fantastic line up of acts to suit a range of ages and tastes, whether you enjoy traditional rock bands or fun family activities."
