THESE are the winning entries in the Specsavers So Redditch 50th Anniversary Photographic Competition.

The Standard joined forces with the Kingfisher Shopping Centre store to challenge residents to capture what Redditch means to them in a picture.

Scores of entries were submitted depicting a host of iconic images of the borough and it was a tough job for judges Ian Bowers, Specsavers Redditch store director, and Standard editor Ian Dipple to whittle them down to the three winners.

The winning entry was by Webheath resident Roger Reeves for his beautiful shot of the back of Forge Mill Needle Museum. He will receive £500 worth of Jessops vouchers. Collecting a pair of designer specs each are runners-up Jane Greenfield of Batchley, who chose Bacthley Pond as her iconic location and Debbie Degge of Southcrest for her picture of the bandstand and fountain on Church Green.

Mr Bowers said: “Specsavers has been in Redditch for 21 years in August and we have seen Redditch change over that time and grown with the town.

“We really wanted to do something to join in with the 50th anniversary celebrations and I was very impressed with what people came up with.

“The winning entry for me just speaks volumes about the history of Redditch and Forge Mill is one of those iconic locations that offers a link between the old and the new.”

The winning images, along with a selection of other entries, will go on show in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre next week as part of the So Redditch Festival celebrations marking half a century of Redditch as a new town.
