DURAN DURAN star John Taylor has hit back at claims Redditch is the least musical town by creating a mix tape of borough artists.

The bass player took to the band’s website in reaction to research by Goldsmiths, University of London, which claimed the town was the worst in the UK when it comes to musical sophistication.

At the bottom of the statement a 42 minute clip showcases songs from borough musicians including Music Like Lemons, Lucy May Walker and Kill The Romantic.

The former Abbey High School pupil found out about the town’s talent after visiting the Death or Glory Records music store where he met a group of musicians.

“Through the Death or Glory music store in Redditch , I met with some local musicians and found a really fertile scene there,” he told fans.

“Listen to this mix-tape I made, it’s filled with fantastic and heroic music, the sound of a town seeking spiritual uplift through guitars, drums, and voices.”

Steve Hadley, owner of Death and Glory records, said the musician often called the store to find out how they were getting on and for more information about local musicians.

“The CD we released of local musicians we actually gave to him when he visited, and this mix-tape has come from there really.

“He takes a genuine interest in this town’s music scene and cares about bands in Redditch. It is great to see someone standing up for the town and doing something about it.”

Lucy May Walker, added: “I think it’s great someone who is that recognised within the music industry has gone against the research and said no there is musical talent here.

“To hear your own music on a compilation he made was great.”
