PRISONERS have helped put Studley’s bid for floral glory back on track after it was trashed by vandals.

HMP Hewell got in touch with members of the Studley in Bloom committee after reading in the Standard how mindless vandals had gone on a rampage through the village, ripping out plants, destroying planters and even used hanging baskets as football.

At the time organisers feared their bid for a fourth gold in a row had been irreparably damaged as they were struggling to replace the plants damaged as they were no longer in season.

But the prison’s garden centre has come to the rescue, donating over £100 worth of plants, including those the committee was unable to find.

Gill Liebthal, chair of Studley in Bloom, said she was overwhelmed by the prison’s generosity.

“The plants were beautiful healthy ones and just what we needed to replace the ones we lost,” she said.

“We are so grateful and would like to thank everybody at Hewell Grange for their help and support. We are now confident our planters will look splendid on August 1 for the Heart of England in Bloom judging day and will not reflect the damage caused to them.”
