A FORMER star of Australian soap Neighbours is to take the headline role in this year's Palace Theatre panto.

Anne Charleston, better known to millions as Madge Bishop, will play the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella being staged at the Alcester Street venue between Monday, December 8 and Sunday, January 4.

During her time on Ramsay Street Madge was a formidable battle-axe who took little nonsense from anyone but Anne promises to bring some of her Australian magic to the role of Fairy Godmother and ensure Cinders gets to the ball to meet Prince Charming.

She already has valuable experience in helping young people fall in love from her time in Neighbours when she watched on-screen daughter Charlene - played by a relatively unknown Kylie Minogue - marry Scott Robinson, played by Jason Donovan, in one of the soap's most famous episodes.

Supporting Anne will be a host of leading West End Actors including Scott Cripps as Buttons (Jesus Christ Superstar), Sammi Kelly (Singing in the Rain) and the Ugliest of Sisters played by Richard Pocock and Dereck Walker.

Tickets are on sale now from the box office on 01527 65203 or online at www.redditchpalacetheatre.co.uk
