A WIDOWER is appealing to callous thieves to return a tool given to him by his late wife.
Doug Scrivens had the sentimental WOLF gardening tool stolen from his shed at the Tilehouse allotments off Plymouth Road, between last Wednesday and Thursday (June 18 and 19).
The 86-year-old turned up to tend to his plants about 10am last Thursday when he spotted the gate to the site was open.
When he got to his allotment he saw the lock had been broken off the shed and after looking inside he noticed everything had gone.
The heartless thieves took all of his gardening equipment including a hose reel, fork and lump hammer.
But he said the most distressing item taken was the special tool which his wife Jill had bought him more than 30 years ago.
"The hardest thing was that tool being taken. You won't see many of them around. We got it in Droitwich years ago," he said.
"If they took anything else I wouldn't have minded as much. But they cleared me out and then took that. That's why it is so upsetting.
"I was just in complete shock when I opened the door. Things have been taken before, but it's never been as bad as this."
"I just want whoever took it to show some compassion. It won't be worth anything but it means an awful lot to me and I would just ask if they could return it."
He added friends had kindly given him a few gardening items to replace the ones which were taken.
"Everyone has been very generous. And at least if they come back I've got nothing left to take, unless they want a shed."
Anyone with any information should contact police on 101.
