Council hunts dog poo hotspots

RESIDENTS are being urged to report areas of the borough blighted by dog poo.

Redditch Borough Council is looking for dog fouling hot spot areas to target as part of this year's Mucky Pup campaign, set to be launched from July 1.

Once sites have been identified they will be deep cleansed and strictly monitored while there will also be extra signage put in place. Residents will also be asked to keep an eye out for people not picking up after their pooch and record the time, date and location of the offence.

Anyone caught not scooping the poop will be fined £75.

About 25 per cent of households across the UK now own a dog and instances of dog fouling are on the rise. Last year the council's cleansing team dealt with 250 requests to clear up dog fouling.

Zoe Gannon, community environmental awareness officer, said: "There is no excuse for not picking up after your dog and we really need residents to give us information on where the worst spots are for dog fouling.

"Responsible dog owners often tell us how frustrating it is when people let their dogs defecate on footpaths and grass verges so we want this year to be the biggest Mucky Pup campaign yet with more people involved to send out the message that we won’t stand for it any more."

Dog fouling can be reported by calling 01527 534016.
