AN ALVECHURCH pupil was approached by a stranger while on her way to school.

The man was seen walking up to the child who attends Alvechurch C of E Middle School while she waited for a coach in Barnt Green about about 8.25am on Wednesday (June 18).

He tried to start a conversation with the girl and was believed to be acting suspicious.

A member of the public intervened before the the man walked off and the police were called.

A spokeswoman from West Mercia Police said a number of officers searched the area and a man fitting the description was arrested nearby after being spotted by a PCSO.

He is currently at Kidderminster Police Station helping detectives with their enquiries.

Schools in the area have since sent out letters to parents informing them of the incident and have encouraged them to re-iterate to their children the importance of being safe. An assembly on the issue was also held at Alvechurch Middle School.
