A REDDITCH rock magazine is celebrating 20 years of success by becoming digital.

Black Velvet, a quarterly independent music magazine, was first published in 1994 by Webheath resident Shari Black Velvet.

The 20th anniversary edition features Midlands-based band MisterNothing on the cover and will be followed by just one final printed instalment in August before it goes online. The switch is being made in a bid to reach more readers and cut costs.

Miss Velvet said: “I want more people to read my interviews and articles as I put a lot of effort into them. I’m proud of them and think they deserve to be read by more people and unfortunately less people buy music magazines these days.

“I’m hoping it will become more successful as an online mag where anyone can read it free and hopefully it will get more known at least.

“Although I’d have liked Black Velvet to have become profitable, it’s always been a labour of love, something I’ve done because

I loved writing and loved going to concerts and listening to rock music.”

She added video interviews would also be uploaded to YouTube.
