A GROUP of friends are getting revved up to drive across Europe in a £250 banger car.

Following the Best of British theme, Tim Bovington, Marc Sterland, Mark Sayers and Rob Elmes, will be competing in the Monte Carlo or Bust Rally to raise funds for Redditch Heart Safe.

The foursome hit the road in their Renault people carrier yesterday (Thursday) in the hope of making it to Monte Carlo in Monaco three days later.

The rally is inspired by the classic 1960s Paramount film and will take the team through Luxembourg, Switzerland and Italy where they will compete in a series of challenges to win points and prizes, as well as wearing fancy dress.

The group took on the challenge last year in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support but decided to donate all their funds to Redditch Heart Safe which raises money to install defibrillators in all public buildings across the borough.

Awards will also be given for certain categories including best and worst dressed teams, and following the event the group has the option to get their trusty banger crushed or risk driving it home again.

Visit www.facebook.com/MCoBbrits for more information about the event and call team captain Marc Sterland on 01527 60569 to organise donations.
