REDDITCH’S MP raised nearly £1,400 after plunging 200ft for charity.

Karen Lumley joined 18 others in a sponsored bungee jump at the Duck Inn last Saturday (May 24).

The fund-raising event saw family, friends and residents take the brave leap to raise money for the Lucie Southall Leukaemia Fund which was founded after the 12-year-old from Winyates lost her battle against cancer.

About £3,500 has been raised from the day which saw hundreds of residents gather at the pub to cheer on the jumpers.

The money will go towards the Ronald McDonald House near Birmingham Children’s Hospital which offers free accommodation as well as support for families visiting sick children.

Lucie’s parents Michelle and Wayne stayed at the house while Lucie was being cared for at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and praised staff for their hard work and support.

Mrs Lumley said she was petrified on the day but wanted to do it because it was such a good cause.

“I can’t begin to imagine what it feels like to lose a daughter. They are such a brave family and have they done some fantastic work,” she said.

“I was really scared but once I did the first drop, it began to feel quite fun.

“I’m so pleased I did it and raised that money and I’m looking forward to visiting the Ronald McDonald House in July to see the fantastic work they do.

“And we can’t forget all the others who jumped that day and those who turned out in the rain to encourage us. Thank you everyone.”
