A CALL has been made for residents to join together and rid Alcester of litter.
Kings Coughton resident Derek Spencer is holding a meeting at Alcester Methodist Church, on Priory Road, tomorrow (Saturday) at 10.30am to discuss how to make the town cleaner.
The environmentalist said he believed there was a problem with people dropping rubbish in Alcester but it was not down to a lack of bins.
“It is thoughtfulness and laziness, but I don’t want to confront or criticise people. I want to convert them and get them to help,” he said.
“I pick up litter myself on my way to church as I walk along the Birmingham Road. I take a black bag and my picker and I have noticed an improvement and it is something that’s very important to me.
“If people see what we are doing it may make them think, and if it does that then that is enough for me.
“We have a lot visitors to the town, so it would be lovely to eventually have a sign saying something like welcome to Alcester, the litter free town.”
He added he hoped people would come forward at the meeting and volunteer their time to pick litter up at certain spots, while people were also needed to organise the group and offer ideas.
