REDDITCH’S MP will be swapping the bench for a bungee rope as she plunges 200ft for charity.

Karen Lumley will be one of a number of residents who will take the leap at a sponsored bungee jump next Saturday (May 24).

The event will run from 12pm at the Duck Inn in a bid raise money for the Lucie Southall Leukaemia Fund which was founded after the 12-year-old from Winyates lost her battle against cancer.

The money will go towards the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham which offers free accommodation as well as support and comfort for families visiting sick children.

Parents Michelle and Wayne stayed at the hotel while Lucie was being cared for at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and want to help other parents who may find themselves in the same situation.

A disco and compere will also be outside to support the jumpers and entertain visitors, while hot food and a raffle will also take place on the day.

Everyone is invited to cheer all the jumpers on with Mrs Lumley taking the leap of faith first off the world’s biggest mobile bungee.

Mrs Lumley, who has supported the charity at previous fund-raising events, said she was both petrified and excited to take part in the event.

“The Lucie Southall Leukaemia Fund is an organisation very close to my heart which I have worked with in the past.

“I will continue to do all I can to lend my help and support to them in the future.”

Michelle and Wayne thanked everyone for their words of comfort and their continued support in supporting the charities.

“We would also like to thank all the bungee jumpers and MP Karen Lumley, what they have all agreed to do for us is truly wonderful, even if a little crazy.”
