A NEW sensory room will be created for pupils with learning disabilities.

The room, which uses light, sound and other equipment to create a calming environment, will be built at Pitcheroak School following a £1,000 donation from developers Taylor Wimpey.

Staff from the Willow Way school, which caters for students aged four to 18 who have a range of learning needs, had been fund-raising for the £10,000 suite.

But the donation now means they have almost reached the target.

It will include bubble tubes, interactive images and lighting as well as fibre optics.

Headteacher Sheila Holden said a sensory room was incredibly important and she was thrilled to receive the donation.

Anne Wallace, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, added: "As a local housebuilder, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build, so we were only too pleased to offer our support to Pitcheroak School by making a donation towards its new sensory room."
