STAFF from a Crabbs Cross florist helped funds for a church roof grow by holding an Easter colouring competition.

Michael Morris, owner of The Nursery Shop on Evesham Road, asked children aged between three and eight to collect colouring- in sheets from the shop in return for a 50p donation.

The winning picture was then picked by Father Michael Bartlett from St Peter's Church where the roof needs replacing at a cost of £40,000.

It is one of only three buildings of its type left from the Victoria era and £20,000 has been raised already through raffles, table top sales, quiz nights and donations.

Seren Pearson, six, was crowned the winner and was given a chocolate egg, while her mother Cheryl received a spring hand-tied bouquet.

Seren will now be entered into a national competition organised by Interflora where she could be in with a chance to win an iPad.

The amount of money raised from the competition is still being counted.

Donations to the roof repair fund can be made at the vicarage next door to the church in Littlewoods in Crabbs Cross.
