CROWDS are expected to flock to the annual scarecrow competition during Headless Cross' May Fayre.

Residents are invited to bring their creations to the event on Monday, May 5, at 1.30pm for Steve

Pound, the orchard's artist in residence, to judge.

He said: "Don't be a stupid turnip, put on your handsome head and make yourselves a scarecrow.

There's a prize for the one that's outstanding in its field.

"There'll even be a nice cuppa tea and a slice o'cake, so bring along your Aunt Sally."

The event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, also features maypole dancing by 2nd Headless Cross Brownies, Arrow Valley Brass Band, a plant swap, heavy horses, the Amazing Human Fruit Machine and much more.
