A WINYATES woman has held a semi-naked protest outside the Tower of London to encourage people to go meat free.

Loretta Hope had her body painted to look like a Yeoman Warders' - or Beefeater's - uniform before standing outside the tourist attraction with a sign reading 'Beefeaters: No! Vegans: Yes, Please!'.

The stunt, organised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), took place on Tuesday (April 22) ahead of St George's Day in a bid to encourage her fellow citizens to kick their meat-eating habit for their health, the environment, animals and England.

The 23-year-old actress, from Dolben Lane, said: "As St George showed us, humans will go to extremes to save their own lives, but our nation's addiction to the fatty flesh in burgers and bangers is hurting – not helping – England.

"We are here to let our fellow citizens know that vegans are, on average, ten to 20 pounds lighter than meat-eaters are – and since they're not contributing to animal suffering, their consciences are lighter, too."

It is not the first time the former Arrow Vale High School pupil has stripped off in public to encourage people to ditch meat from their diets.

Last October she covered herself in barbecue sauce and laid out on a giant plate beneath a banner reading ‘Try to relate to who’s on your plate - Go Vegan’ in a Manchester street to raise awareness of World Vegan Month and to encourage people to take PETA’s 30 day pledge to go vegan.
