A REDDITCH teenager is set to honour her step-mother during a family day to raise money for cancer charities.

Sophie Hallam will split the proceeds from her event at the Abbeydale Community Club between Macmillan Cancer Support and Primrose Hospice.

She also hopes to generate awareness of the work both charities do to help young people affected by cancer and their families in the Redditch area.

The day runs from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, April 26 at the Woodfield Close venue and includes a tombola, homemade jewellery, refreshments, face-painting and more, with a disco from 7pm to 10pm.

The 18-year-old from Batchley said: “I believe that it is important for young people to get involved with charity events and help the community so that we can try and break the normal stereotypes.

“The charity family fun day is inspired by my beloved family member who sadly passed away to cancer. I want to dedicate the charity event to her memory and all those that have been affected by cancer in any shape or form.”

Following the event there will be a balloon release for those who have passed away from cancer or anyone who wants to show their support for their family and friends.

Sophie added: “My thanks go to all those who have helped with donations of prizes so that we can hopefully have a successful event.”
