A BOROUGH communications manager has been attracting press of her own with her unusually-themed wedding.

Anne-Marie Darroch, who heads up the media team at Redditch Borough Council, will be walking down the aisle tomorrow (Saturday) with a bouquet made of asparagus while the buttonholes for the wedding party and the bridesmaids' bouquets have also been themed around the vegetable.

The former journalist, who used to work in Bromsgrove and will marry Paul Harley at Laughern Hill near Worcester, also did a stint at Wychavon District Council where she found out the first day of the asparagus season was on her birthday, April 23.

She told the Standard: "As I get married four days before my birthday it seemed the perfect idea to include the stems in my bouquet – and buttonholes - and the theme just developed from there.

"I picked up the asparagus for my bouquet on Wednesday from Birlingham Nurseries in Evesham and, as well as being the very first crop of the season, it had been literally cut from the fields a couple of hours earlier so it’s definitely fresh!”

The couple - who will jet off on honeymoon to South America in time for Anne-Marie's 40th birthday on Wednesday - have also expanded the green theme throughout the whole day, as well as adding in splashes of yellow to mark Primrose Day which falls on the same day as their wedding.

Guest will also be joined by asparamancer Jemima Packington to predict their futures and there will be a number of asparagus-related surprises through the day.
