AN ALBUM showcasing the best of Redditch’s musical talent, including a singer supporting Take That’s Gary Barlow, is set to be released to mark Record Store Day.

Death or Glory Records, based in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, will launch the album entitled Death or Glory Records Presents at its shop in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre tomorrow (Saturday).

There will also be special in-store performances from five of the 16 bands on the album including Byron Hare, Music Like Lemons, Hoopla Blue, Layers and Lucy May Walker who appears at 1.30pm and will later that evening support Gary Barlow at his concert at the nearby LG Arena in Birmingham. The artwork for the album was also created using a local artist and photographer.

The idea was the brainchild of shop owner Steve Hadley. He said: “It’s a snapshot of the wealth of talent we have here in Redditch. Rather than listening to one band people can listen to 16 and then if they like one come in and buy their album.

“We are very proud to have these bands play in the shop and to be releasing an album, which is just a taster of what the town has to offer.”

The album costs £6 and is available from the store near Argos.

The centre’s other independent record store Vintage Trax is also marking the day by selling a range of rare and unusual albums, picture discs and memorabilia.

It also marks the start of a week of celebrations celebrating English music in honour of St George’s Day on Wednesday (April 23).
