A SOLDIER is set to fulfil a childhood dream this weekend when he takes on the challenge of the London Marathon.

Alcester resident Adam Willington, a corporal in the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, has always wanted to take part in the race since watching his dad compete when he was younger.

Now he will pound the capital’s streets along with thousands of others when the event takes place on Sunday (April 13).

The event will have special significance for Adam who will be raising money for the Primrose Hospice where his wife works as a fund-raising assistant.

“I know how hard everyone there works to raise money so people with life-limiting diseases in our local community can get the care that they need at the end of their life,” he said.

“It is a win-win situation for me.”

Adam has been doing regular long distance runs around his local area to build up his stamina and he is also hoping to re-run the marathon at Sainsbury’s Redditch on a treadmill donated by a local gym to raise even more funds.

Joining him will be Redditch residents Matt Rose and Jack Harris who will also be taking on the 26.2mile course in aid of the Primrose Hospice.

The pair recently held a Valentine’s ball which raised £3,000 towards their fund-raising total.

“At times, when running through wind and rain, the only thing keeping me going was the fantastic work the Primrose Hospice do within the local community and raising as much money as possible for them,” Jack said.
