REDDITCH has been revealed as a hotspot for hanky panky according to a dating website.

Figures released by IllicitEncounters.com show there are 797 people across the borough currently on the site’s books looking for an affair.

It means Redditch is ranked 26 out of 140 towns in the cheating league table. But borough residents are more faithful than nearby Worcester where 4,551 people are looking to play away from home. Bewdley residents are the most likely to remain loyal according to the table with just 191 people seeking an affair.

The site has been running for ten years and is aimed at providing a meeting place for like-minded married and attached people who are looking for romance outside of their current relationship either through flirting, no strings intimacy or a full-blown affair.

Rev Richard Clark, Team Rector for the Holy Trinity Team looking after churches including St Stephen’s in the town centre, said he was saddened but not surprised by the news.

“We live in a society that has chosen to reject love and faithfulness in exchange for damaging themselves in a series of short-term relationships which are exciting for a short while but which ultimately fail to satisfy,” he said.

“The people who come into church to get married commit themselves before Almighty God to a faithful, lifelong relationship, and we will do all we can to support people in making this choice, and sticking to it for the rest of their days.”

The number of people married or in a civil partnership in Redditch according to census figures fell from 53.9 per cent in 2001 to 48.1 per cent in 2011 or some 32,285 people. The number of divorced people has climbed to 4,646.
