Burglary sparks home security warning

A BURGLARY in Matchborough has sparked warnings from police to make sure doors and windows are locked.

A handbag containing £20 cash, keys and bank card were all stolen from the kitchen of the Haseley Close home at 9.30am last Saturday (April 5).

The people living at the property were in the other room when thieves got in through an unlocked kitchen door.

Det Insp John Cashion of West Mercia Police said a fifth of all burglaries happening in North Worcestershire were through unlocked doors or windows. In many cases people were in their homes at the time but were asleep or in another room.

"This is a year around problem, but now the weather is improving it is worth reminding householders to ensure doors and ground floor or easily accessible windows are secure," he said.

"Many burglars are opportunists and much prefer to simply open a door and walk in to a house, rather than risk being seen or heard breaking in."

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident should contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 752-s-050414, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
