THE BASE of a Scout group has been overhauled thanks to a group of youngsters.

A total of 12 young people aged between 17 and 22 raised money for and completed the project at the 1st Matchborough Scout Hut on the site of Arrow Vale Academy as part of their Prince's Trust programme.

The group raised nearly £400 through a car wash, bag pack and gym triathlon where they rowed, ran and cycled the distance between Redditch and Manchester - the Prince's Trust headquarters.

They then built a decking area outside, painted the walls, put down new flooring and fixed the toilet to help brighten the base and make it more usable for members.

Team leader Carl Bilboe said: "All of the group were NEETs so they are not in education, employment or training and the aim of the programme is to re-engage them into one of those areas.

"If you see the before and after photos it's quite a shock how much work they achieved in two weeks."
